The times are a changing in terms of music videos and how they are marketed to the general public. Although the music channels on TV are still around and going strong, the majority of people don't watch those channels anymore. The most popular medium to watch music videos now is youtube. To illustrate this point i have screen shotted a page showing 20 RANDOM popular videos on Youtube at the minute:
Here is the same picture again but with all the official music videos and Vevo uploads highlighted:
here you can clearly see that over half of these videos that are popular on Youtube are music videos by the official channel of that band. To give you an idea of how ridiculous this is lets first understand how large Youtube is as a website:
These facts are pulled straight from the youtube page itself (http://www.youtube.com/yt/press/en-GB/statistics.html)
Bearing this in mind let's analyse the screenshots. Tallying up the number of views of ALL 20 of the videos on that screen grab comes to 1,305,479,566 views. That's One billion, three hundred and five million, four hundred and sevnty nine thousand, five hundred and sixty six views. and how many of them are from the 12 music videos highlighted?
1,300,651,008.
Of twenty top trending videos on Youtube right now the music videos contain 99.6% of the total views. This tremendous figure proves that youtube is a very powerful medium for music videos. This is my arguement for reasons why we should definitely market the music video through Youtube as a priority over all other mediums.
Here is another screencap showing the top 50 (well 48) most subscribed channels on youtube. Just looks how many are music channels. They're all highlighted for you to see.
