The first two album artworks i decided to analyse were very similar. I thought this was appropriate because it highlights the convention in albums of this genre. The first album by The Kooks Is simply showing the band in a rehearsal. The album title uses red and black to contrast over the greyscale colouring of the picture. The simplicity of the album art is reflective of the band's attitude to music and their image. They don't want to be noticeable and they don't want to stand out, they just want the people who'd enjoy their music to buy their albums. This is what the band is about in general, just the music they play. Nothing more, nothing less, which is a theme alot of bands like to stick with. All the text is in the same font as the font The Kooks' band name was written in, keeping it simple.
With 'Sam's Town' by The Killers you can clearly see the similarities to The Kooks' album. It is just a single picture shot in greyscale with red and black text overlayed. The similarities end here though.the font 'Sam's Town' is written in is very different to The Killers' signature font. The imagery is arguably random, however it leads the consumer to question it. Why the goat? Why the juxtaposition of the goat next to a half naked woman? This imagery would have been purposefully chosen to symbolise something band cared about. The general interpretation is that it's bringing the goat anf the woman to the same level. Questioning what beauty actually is. The woman won an award for her looks, but she's still spending time with a goat.
Finally to show some contrast, Green Day's 'Dookie' is exemplary of a punk album. It's colourful, it's obnoxious and it's in your face. Which is exactly what punk music is. The albums tend to be very different to the norm whilst still holding some of the conventions of rock cd's. Since the album is called 'Dookie' - a slang word for...well...- The imagery is predominantely based around dookie. The font is in a comic book style and is frankly, all over the place.
